Nigeria is facing tough economic realities. But Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo says the bigger story may be what comes next.
Soludo believes the next four years of President Bola Tinubu’s administration could bring a stronger, fairer Nigeria, arguing that the government’s ongoing reforms provide grounds for optimism despite the hardship many citizens are experiencing.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday while receiving First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her official visit to Anambra State.
Soludo: Look Beyond Today’s Hardship
Soludo acknowledged that Nigerians are feeling the pressure of current economic conditions. Still, he urged citizens to keep their focus on the potential long-term impact of the Federal Government’s reforms.
He expressed confidence that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would eventually produce meaningful improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
“Many are complaining now, but I see hope in the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Soludo also praised the President’s efforts and said he expected the administration’s next four years to translate its reform agenda into broader national progress.
That optimism was central to his message: the pain of reform, he argued, should be viewed alongside its intended results.
Anambra and the Federal Government Push Cooperation
The governor welcomed the First Lady and commended her work, describing her as a supportive wife, pastor and compassionate mother figure.
He also pointed to the empowerment of more than 500 Anambra residents through the Renewed Hope Initiative as evidence that cooperation between different levels of government can produce tangible results.
For Soludo, political differences should not stand in the way of development.
He emphasized the relationship between the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led Anambra government and the APC-led Federal Government, describing both parties as progressive political forces with a shared responsibility to advance Nigeria.
His administration, he said, would continue adapting relevant Federal Government programmes for implementation across Anambra, particularly at the grassroots level.
Food Support Moves to the Southeast
Oluremi Tinubu, in her response, thanked Soludo for implementing elements of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in ways intended to improve the welfare of Anambra residents.
She also made a regional appeal.
The five South-East governors, she said, should work together to launch the National Community Food Bank programme across the zone.
The proposed initiative is designed to extend nutritional assistance through Primary Health Care centres.
Its target groups include:
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding mothers
- Children younger than six
- Vulnerable families needing nutritional support
Tinubu described the programme as “Hope Accomplished for vulnerable Nigerians,” linking the initiative to the administration’s broader welfare agenda.
Women and Children Remain a Key Focus
Earlier, Anambra’s First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, praised Mrs Tinubu for placing the welfare of women, young people and children high on her agenda.
She also highlighted the First Lady’s use of the Renewed Hope Initiative to assist vulnerable Nigerians while creating opportunities for economic empowerment.
The visit ultimately produced another significant moment when the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council honored Oluremi Tinubu with the chieftaincy title “Ugoeze Anambra,” translated as “Glory of the King.”
Thousands Receive Business Support
The scale of the empowerment effort extended beyond the smaller group initially highlighted during the governor’s remarks.
According to the report, at least 5,000 residents benefited from Dr Nonye Soludo’s empowerment programme.
Recipients received equipment and starter resources aimed at helping them establish or strengthen small businesses.
The support included:
- Sewing machines
- Piglets
- Fish-pond equipment
- Poultry equipment
- Baking ovens
The First Lady also provided ₦100,000 to each beneficiary as additional financial assistance.
What Soludo’s Message Means
The central message from the Anambra visit was bigger than a political endorsement.
It brought together economic reform, grassroots empowerment, food security and cooperation between state and federal authorities.
Soludo’s prediction of a stronger and fairer Nigeria rests on the expectation that current reforms will eventually deliver results. Tinubu’s administration, meanwhile, is presenting initiatives such as community food support and economic empowerment as practical ways to cushion vulnerable Nigerians.
For Anambra, the immediate focus is on turning those national programmes into local benefits.
And that may be the real test of the “stronger and fairer Nigeria” Soludo says he expects to see over the next four years.
