Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state following the killing of a transport union figure in Ile-Ife.
The governor announced the proscription after Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, was shot dead on Sunday during a clash allegedly involving hoodlums fighting for control of a motor park in the ancient city.
The incident has heightened concerns over violence linked to rival groups operating around motor parks in the state.
Adeleke orders arrest of suspects
Reacting to the killing, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that everyone suspected to have been involved in the incident is arrested and prosecuted.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor also ordered all factions involved in the dispute to immediately leave motor parks across Osun.
He directed security agencies to move in, restore calm and maintain law and order at motor parks throughout the state.
Osun to reintroduce Park Management System
As part of efforts to prevent further clashes, Adeleke announced the reintroduction of the Park Management System (PMS) across Osun.
The system is expected to provide a more structured framework for managing activities at motor parks and reduce conflicts between competing transport groups.
The governor is expected to issue an Executive Order that will provide the legal backing required for the new arrangement.

The latest measures come after a deadly confrontation over control of a garage in Ile-Ife.
By ordering rival factions out of motor parks and restoring the Park Management System, the state government is seeking to regain control of motor park operations and prevent further violence.
The governor also made clear that security agencies are expected to maintain order while authorities pursue those responsible for Oyeyemi’s killing.
The immediate focus is now on restoring peace across Osun’s motor parks while bringing those responsible for the Ile-Ife killing to justice.
