Fatih Tekke is out at Trabzonspor. A 5-0 European defeat changed everything.
The Turkish Super Lig club have accepted Tekke’s resignation after initially rejecting it, bringing an 18-month spell in charge to an abrupt end following their Europa League elimination.
Tekke offered to step down after Trabzonspor were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by Ferencváros in the play-off round.
The club initially refused his resignation last Friday, saying the decision had been made under the “intense emotional impact” of the heavy defeat.
Five days later, the position had changed.
Trabzonspor confirmed on Wednesday that they had reached a “mutual understanding” with Tekke to end his tenure, saying the decision was made in the interests of the club and its long-term plans.
A difficult exit after a successful spell
The European collapse overshadowed what had otherwise been a productive period for Tekke.
He took Trabzonspor to third place in the Super Lig last season and, most importantly, delivered a trophy.
