Security forces have raided suspected IPOB/ESN hideouts in Anambra State, forcing armed elements to abandon their positions and flee, according to the military.
The operation took place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as part of an ongoing security campaign targeting armed groups and criminal networks in the South-East.
The military said personnel from its Maritime Component, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Anambra Vigilante Group took part in the coordinated operation.

Dawn Raid Targets Two Villages
Security forces moved into identified locations around Obene and Abator villages, within the Ochuche and Umunankwo communities, during a coordinated early-morning offensive.
According to the military, troops came under fire as they advanced towards the suspected positions.
The armed elements subsequently abandoned their locations and fled into surrounding terrain.
Troops returned fire and pursued the fleeing group.
Military Reports Casualties
The military said blood stains were discovered along the escape route, indicating that some of the fleeing suspects may have suffered gunshot injuries.
During the pursuit, troops reportedly neutralised one member of the group.
The military also said other fleeing members escaped while carrying the body of another person it believed had been killed during the encounter.

Weapons and IED Materials Recovered
After the armed group was driven from the area, troops searched the abandoned positions.
The military said the operation yielded:
- Two pump-action firearms
- Two motorcycles
- Materials reportedly intended for improvised explosive devices

The security forces subsequently secured the locations and widened their search of surrounding areas.
Forces Move to Prevent Regrouping
Troops remained in the area after the raid, conducting further searches for fleeing members and attempting to prevent the group from re-establishing its presence.
The operation is part of the broader activities of Operation UDO KA, which involves security agencies working to disrupt armed groups and criminal networks operating across the South-East.
The military said the objective is to deny such groups safe operating areas, weaken their ability to carry out attacks and improve security for communities and other law-abiding residents.
The latest raid reflects the continued push to dismantle suspected armed-group strongholds before they can be used to regroup or launch further operations.
