The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has warned the public to ignore posts from its official X account after the platform was allegedly taken over without authorisation.
The Commission said its account is currently under the control of an individual or account operating under the handle @ephesus_lib.
In a disclaimer issued by its Director of Corporate Affairs and External Linkages, Fatimah Agwai, the NHRC said it had not authorised or endorsed any posts, statements, messages, links or other material being published from the compromised account.
Public urged to disregard messages
The Commission advised members of the public, development partners, stakeholders and media organisations to treat all communications originating from the account as unauthorised until further notice.
The NHRC said it was already taking steps to contain the breach and recover control of its official X account.
It added that once an official X platform is restored or made available, it would use its verified communication channels to update the public and its partners.
NHRC apologises for disruption
The Commission apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident and appealed to the public and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation while efforts to resolve the breach continue.
Until the account is recovered, the NHRC says the public should rely only on its established and verified communication channels for official information.
