MTN, WWF, UNDP and Deloitte Launch 2026 Nigeria PachiPanda Challenge

What if Nigeria’s biggest environmental problems could become its next generation of green businesses?

MTN Nigeria, in partnership with the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Deloitte Nigeria, has launched the 2026 Nigeria PachiPanda Challenge.

This year’s programme is built around the theme “Nature Meets Innovation: Unlocking Africa’s Green Economy.”

The challenge is designed to help young Nigerians turn environmental ideas into practical, commercially viable solutions while creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and green economic growth.

Who Can Apply?

The 2026 challenge is open to young innovators, entrepreneurs and SME founders aged 18 to 35.

Applicants can enter either individually or as teams of up to three people.

But there is a clear focus: ideas must tackle environmental problems that are relevant to Nigeria.

Participants can develop solutions in four priority areas:

  • Climate change
  • Climate-smart cities and urban resilience
  • Community conservation
  • Pollution

The emphasis is not simply on having an interesting idea.

The organisers are looking for solutions that are practical, scalable and capable of creating measurable impact.

From Idea to Venture

Ten finalists will advance to a four-day boot camp and pitch programme in Lagos.

The boot camp will give participants the opportunity to strengthen their ideas through a human-centred design process, while developing the skills required to turn an innovation into a viable venture.

Finalists will work on areas including:

  • Business development
  • Commercial strategy
  • Presentation and pitching
  • Solution refinement
  • Impact creation

The programme will conclude with a final pitch before a panel of industry experts.

₦10 Million Prize Pool

The three leading innovators will share a ₦10 million prize pool.

The winners will receive:

  • First place: ₦5 million
  • Second place: ₦3 million
  • Third place: ₦2 million

But the prize money is only part of the opportunity.

Winners will also gain access to industry experts, support platforms and professional networks intended to help them develop and scale their ventures.

The Nigerian champions will then take their ideas to the Africa PachiPanda Finale, where they will compete against winners from other participating African countries.

Why the Partners Are Backing Young Innovators

For MTN Nigeria, the programme reflects the idea that environmental sustainability and economic development should advance together.

Tobe Okigbo, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, said the challenge is intended to give young Nigerians a platform to tackle environmental problems while strengthening entrepreneurship and long-term sustainability.

The NCF sees youth leadership as equally important.

Its Director-General, Dr Joseph Onoja, said supporting young innovators gives the next generation both the tools and confidence to develop solutions that protect natural ecosystems.

UNDP Nigeria’s Chief Innovation Officer, Dr William Tsuma, emphasised the development angle, noting that young people working directly on real-world problems can help drive more inclusive economic growth.

Deloitte West Africa’s Chief Growth Officer, Bernard Orji, highlighted another part of the partnership: helping participants test whether their ideas can work commercially.

That means finalists will not simply be encouraged to think bigger.

They will be challenged to make their ideas stronger, more investable and more scalable.

The Bigger Opportunity

Nigeria faces environmental pressures ranging from pollution and climate risks to urban resilience and ecosystem degradation.

At the same time, the country has a large and increasingly entrepreneurial youth population.

The PachiPanda Challenge sits at the intersection of those two realities.

A successful solution could do more than address an environmental problem. It could create jobs, attract investment, build new businesses and demonstrate that sustainability can be commercially viable.

That is the real test for the challengers: can an environmental idea become an enduring business?

Application Deadline

Applications for the 2026 Nigeria PachiPanda Challenge opened on July 29, 2026.

Interested applicants have until August 28, 2026 to submit their ideas.

The main programme is scheduled to run from October 19 to 22, 2026, culminating in the final pitch.

For young Nigerians working on climate, conservation, pollution or sustainable urban solutions, the challenge offers more than a competition.

It is a chance to turn an environmental problem into a solution—and potentially turn that solution into a business.
