Twenty-two people have been arrested in Kano over an alleged attempt to organise an illegal event, according to the state’s Hisbah Board.
The suspects comprise 12 men and 10 women, the board said.
The Deputy Commander-General, Dr. Mujahedeen Aminudeen, disclosed the arrests to journalists at his office in Kano on Saturday.
According to Aminudeen, preliminary inquiries suggested that many of those arrested were allegedly involved in drug abuse.
He added that some of the male suspects were allegedly effeminate, while the women were suspected of engaging in prostitution.
Investigation Underway
Aminudeen said the investigation had not yet been concluded and that the suspects would be taken before a court with the appropriate jurisdiction once the process was complete.
He also issued a warning to people intending to travel to Kano to engage in activities authorities consider illegal or immoral.
Hisbah officers, he said, would continue to arrest and prosecute alleged offenders.
Parents Urged to Take Responsibility
Beyond the arrests, Aminudeen called on parents to play a stronger role in raising their children.
He said proper parental guidance and character development were essential to helping young people build better futures and make responsible choices.
The arrests come amid the Hisbah Board’s continued enforcement activities in Kano, with the latest case now subject to further investigation and possible court proceedings.
