Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a new Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio also commended Governor Umo Eno for making the Obio Akpa campus of Akwa Ibom State University available to support the immediate take-off of the federal institution.

Akpabio Expects University to Begin This Year
The Senate President expressed confidence that the university would commence academic activities before the end of the year.
He said he was particularly looking forward to seeing the institution admit its pioneer students, describing the development as significant for his senatorial district.
“I look forward to the admission of the first batch of students into the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in this Senatorial District.”
Remarks Came at Funeral Service
Akpabio made the comments during the funeral service for Hon. (Elder) Imo Akpan Ibokette, a former Majority Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
The service was held at Abak International Nursery/Primary School in Abak Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Jackson Udom, the Senate President used the occasion to acknowledge the cooperation between the federal and state governments in advancing the university project.
New Institution Set to Boost Agricultural Education
The establishment of the university is expected to expand access to higher education while strengthening training and research in agriculture, technology and related fields.
With the state government releasing the Obio Akpa campus to facilitate the institution’s launch, attention now turns to completing the necessary arrangements for its academic take-off.
For Akpabio, the next milestone is clear: welcoming the university’s first students.
