A 33-year-old Nigerian man, Olusegun Onidare, has been arrested and charged in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, following allegations that two females were sexually assaulted in separate incidents on the same day.
The Peel Regional Police said the incidents occurred on Monday, August 31, after two females reported being assaulted by a man whose identity was initially unknown.
According to police, the alleged assaults happened at different locations in Brampton.
First Alleged Assault Happened at Mall
Police said the first incident involved a woman in her 20s who was shopping at a mall near Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard.
The suspect allegedly approached the woman while she was shopping and sexually assaulted her.
Investigators subsequently released information seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man.
Second Incident Involved Female Under 18
Later the same day, police said the suspect allegedly approached a female under the age of 18 who was waiting at a transit terminal near Central Park Drive and Queen Street East.
According to investigators, the man allegedly began a conversation with the girl before sexually assaulting her.
Police treated the two incidents as separate cases involving the same alleged offender.
Member of Public Helped Police Identify Suspect
The investigation later took a significant turn after a member of the public recognised the man shown in an earlier police appeal.
The individual contacted police, providing investigators with information that helped identify the suspect as Olusegun Onidare.
Police subsequently arrested Onidare.
Onidare Faces Three Charges
Following his arrest, Onidare was charged with:
- Two counts of sexual assault
- One count of breach of a probation order
Police identified him as a 33-year-old man with no fixed address.
He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and Onidare is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
