Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-West, targeting children under six, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers who are vulnerable to food insecurity and malnutrition.
The South-West rollout, the fourth zonal launch of the programme, took place at Makun in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Targeting malnutrition at the community level
Tinubu said the initiative forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on improving food security and health outcomes while strengthening household welfare.
She described the food banks as a deliberate and sustainable intervention for communities facing food insecurity.
The programme is designed to make nutritious food more accessible to vulnerable households, with priority given to young children, expectant mothers and lactating women.
The First Lady commended Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and his wife, Bamidele Abiodun, for establishing three food banks in Sagamu, Yewa North and Abeokuta.
She also credited Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Director-General, Muyi Aina, with supporting efforts to expand the initiative and improve the welfare of vulnerable mothers and children.
Tinubu inaugurates 108-unit housing estate
The First Lady later inaugurated the Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate in Kobape, describing the project as a significant step towards expanding access to decent, affordable and modern housing in Ogun State.
Located along the Oke-Mosan–Kobape Express Road, the estate contains 108 housing units.
At the ceremony, Governor Dapo Abiodun said reducing the state’s housing deficit remains a priority for his administration.
He linked the provision of affordable homes to better living conditions for residents and pledged to continue developing housing projects for citizens until the end of his tenure.
More engagements in Ogun
Tinubu’s programme in the Gateway State extended beyond food security and housing.
She also inaugurated the Gateway Medical Center of Excellence before meeting with traditional rulers in the state.
The series of engagements placed three issues at the heart of her visit: nutrition, healthcare and affordable housing—areas with direct implications for the wellbeing of vulnerable households.
